Boys & Girls Club: Before- and After-School Care

Mifflin partners with the Wissahickon Boys & Girls Club and Philadelphia Youth Basketball to provide free, on-site care for students.

A new application is required each fall. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis throughout the year. The Boys & Girls Club will contact families when their child is approved.

Program Hours

• Before Care: 7:30–9:00 a.m. [When registration for before-care begins that we will notify families via email and Class DoJo]
• After Care: 3:39–6:00 p.m.

Out-of-School Time (OST)

Out-of-School Time (OST) is the time that a child or youth spends in after school or summer programming. In Philadelphia, OST programs are provided for young people in grades K through 12.

Thomas Mifflin School is named in honor of Thomas Mifflin (1744–1800), a Philadelphia-born merchant, soldier, statesman, and Founding Father. Mifflin served as an officer in the Continental Army during the American Revolution, represented Pennsylvania in the Continental Congress, and became the first Governor of Pennsylvania under the state’s 1790 Constitution. His legacy of leadership and public service is reflected in the school that bears his name.

The Thomas Mifflin School building was designed by renowned Philadelphia school architect Irwin T. Catharine and constructed in 1936–1937. Designed in the Colonial Revival style, the historic building has served generations of students and families in Philadelphia’s East Falls community and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 in recognition of its architectural and historical significance.

For nearly a century, Thomas Mifflin School has proudly served students and families in East Falls and Northwest Philadelphia. Today, the school continues its tradition of academic excellence, community partnership, and providing a safe and nurturing environment where students are encouraged to learn, grow, and achieve their goals.

Annual Notification of Rights under FERPA

The School District of Philadelphia is required to annually notify parents and eligible students of their rights under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). These rights include the right to inspect and review education records, request amendments, consent to disclosures, and file a complaint.

Students are expected to wear appropriate school attire each day, including approved uniform tops, bottoms, and closed-toe shoes.

Shirt/Top:

• Solid-colored maroon or white shirts
• Collared shirts, T-shirts, and cardigans
• Solid-colored sweatshirts or quarter-zips (no hoods)
• Mifflin gear

Pants/Bottoms:

• Grades K–5: Khaki pants, joggers, shorts, skirts, skorts, dresses, or jumpers
• Grades 6–8: Khaki or black pants, shorts, skirts, skorts, dresses, or jumpers, or black jeans
• Sweatpants are permitted on Gym days only

Gym Day:

• Solid gray-colored sweatpants or shorts
• Solid gray-colored t-shirt or sweatshirt
• Sneakers

Footwear: Closed-toe shoes, including sneakers or boots during inclement weather

Not Permitted:

• Hoodies
• Sleeveless tops or shirts with straps
• Midriff-baring shirts
• Jeans
• Pajama pants
• Tights or leggings worn without approved bottoms
• Bottoms shorter than mid-thigh, or fingertip length
• Slippers, slides, sandals, flip-flops, or Crocs

If a student violates the dress code:

• A temporary uniform shirt may be provided for the day.
• Students will be assigned lunch reflection.
• Families may be contacted if needed.

Students are expected to wear appropriate clothing at all times, including shirts, pants, shorts, dresses, skirts, and proper footwear.

If a student violates the dress code:

• A parent/guardian may be contacted
• The school may provide loaner clothing, or request a change of clothes be brought to school
